The White House - Adelaide Hills

Todays review brings us to the beautiful area of Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills.

Taking my dear Mother out for Mothers Day breakfast, we opt for The White House, located on the main street in Hahndorf.

The character-filled cottage has won numerous awards since opening in 2010, offering rustic charm combined with modern sophistication. Entering the restaurant, elegance exudes as we are kindly greeted by the owners.

The cottage, which houses two smaller dining rooms, provides refinement while emitting a unique homely ambience. Some may find the interior somewhat claustrophobic, but once you sit down, the relaxed atmosphere places one at ease.

Perusing the menu, the breakfast options are impressive and certainly French inspired - offering Croque Monsieur (grilled ham & cheese sandwich), crepes and the traditional Gruau d’avoine (French style muesli) among the usual suspects.

Gruau d’avoine - French style muesli; rolled oats, shaved coconut, seasonal fruit, green apple yoghurt, local honey and chia seeds $13

The muesli was sublime. A profusion of flavour and textures, blending oh so flawlessly. The chia seeds added a lovely, wholesome crunch (and a useful antioxidant boost!). The muesli was on the sweeter side due to the generous amounts of honey, nevertheless it was still one of the higher quality muesli’s I have had in Adelaide. Definitely worth coming back for.

The White House was everything I expected it to be. The food here made an enjoyable Mothers Day breakfast and though fairly busy, I could still feel the warmth emanating from the cottage. Despite the delay in my Mum’s coffee, the service was impressive -professional and genuine, and not overly obtrusive.

For an enjoyable breakfast or lunch in the beautiful Adelaide Hills, The White House comes highly recommended.

Until next time, happy eats :)
