The Deli - 2013

Sunday morning breakfast date at The Deli in Thebarton. Best way to spend a weekend off :)

Fantastic city fringe location - peacefully set in a quiet suburban street.

Charming interior - rustic, eclectic and very casual. Featuring a variety of wall paintings, it’s the ideal place to unwind and enjoy the atmosphere.

The staff seemed friendly – taking our drink orders just after we sat down. My eyes shot right to the smoothies section – with combinations like banana, honey, yoghurt, cinnamon & chia seeds – my choice was easy.

I’m not sure if they forgot our order or if there was a mix-up, but the drinks seemed to take a heck of a long time to arrive. Around 20-minutes or thereabouts, my smoothie arrived – but still no soy latte for Sam. It wasn’t until they started delivering our meals when his drink arrived. Not the greatest first impression – but Sam assured me that previous times he visited, the service was prompt.

Anyway….the smoothie – delish! It was light and revitalising, without being excessively sweet. I was hoping the texture would have been slightly denser – but the flavours were spot on – and any café that provides the option of adding chia seeds to a smoothie gets a big tick in my book.

Shortly after the food arrived.

Quinoa porridge – with sliced apples/pears, almonds, sultanas, soymilk, and date molasses - INCREDIBLE, in fact I would comfortably say the best porridge I’ve had in Adelaide. The consistency of the nutty texture was sublime, combining perfectly with the sweetness of the fruit and the creamy flavor of the soy-milk. Utterly delish!

Sam’s bacon & eggs with Italian sausage, spinach, and rosti on toast looked the goods. He said it was one of the best breakfasts he’s had in Adelaide - it certainly looked appetising!

I finished off with a green tea and Sam ordered a combination freshly squeezed juice. I’m not 100% sure what all the ingredients were, but I know it included apples, beetroot and ginger – how amazing is the colour!

Despite a few hiccups with our drink orders, it was one of the most relaxed breakfasts I’ve had in Adelaide. Tasty food, affable staff and a relaxed interior….The Deli is highly recommended. Will I be returning? Uh…..YEAH!
