Sydney, Sydney oh glorious Sydney. Such a prolific city, with more restaurant and cafe options than one can stomach.

Todays review brings us to the gorgeous area of Surry Hills.

Taking my extended family to Reuben Hills, from the recommendation of a local food blogger, the cafe’s interior bellows uber cool. Think industrial warehouse meets shabby chic - not dissimilar to Hello, Yesin Adelaide’s CBD.

The cafe holds the title as Latorre & Dutch best boutique roaster of the year 2013, so yeah….it’s safe to assume these guys know how to brew a good cuppa. Not a coffee drinker? Not to worry, the menu offers an assortment of other bevvys too.

Brunching with my extended family from Germany, they found the menu somewhat bewildering (understandable, as English isn’t their primary language), but after several explanations, the brilliance of the menu shone through.

I ordered the soft baked eggswith goats curd, spinach, ranchero and rye.

Wholly smokes, Batman…….the eggs were bloody delicious. It came with a nice amount of goats curd and some wilted spinach too, the flavours working harmoniously together. Baked egg’s usually need some va-va-va-voom (aka heat), Reuben Hills delivered it in spades! Bravo!

I also ordered a mint & lavender tea which frustratingly came out barely lukewarm. SIGH. I like my tea HOT please!

Simon had the Achiote pork n’ beans with soft fried egg, tortilla chips and chimmi churri.

Wow, what a sight! Who was I kidding, I was totes jealous. Simon devoured it magnificently, suffice to say it was another high quality dish. Simon said it was “a pretty great dish.”

Simon’s girlfriend Chiara T, ordered the Organic bircher muesliwith rockmelon, apple, blueberry and almonds.

Now this is what I call a bircher muesli, the towering apple and rockmelon looked extremely invigorating on this humid Sydney morning, CT saying it hit her sweet tooth craving perfectly.

Chiara P ordered the Seffa porridgewith jammed fruits, yoghurt, nuts & almond milk.

This is what I originally set my sights on, but C beat me to it! Not the most visually pleasing dish, but who are we kidding - porridge isn’t exactly the most artistic breakfast option. Anyway….C demolished it…..you go girl!!

It was definitely fun place to show my extended family given their tasty food, friendly service and all-round quirkiness.

So if you’re ever in Sydney, you should definitely check out Reuben Hills. It gives out a terrific vibe and in my opinion, has a very “Sydney” feel to it.
