On a recent weekend in Melbourne, I was desperate to get my “acai bowl” fix - enter Nutrition Bar in Richmond.

If you’re into clean eating - Melbournites, you need to come here! Everything from green juices/smoothies, protein shakes, salads, and of course the infamous acai bowl (pronounced ah-sigh-ee).

The acai bowl is well known for it’s abundance of health benefits, but it’s largest strength is definitely the taste. Think ice-cream or sorbet…..only, full of antioxidants, no artificial sugars, utilising natural ingredients to help fight those nasty free radicals. Also known as - happiness in a bowl!

Offering several acai bowl verities, I had the Peanut Butter Bowl - Acai, peanut butter, banana and coconut water topped with more banana, strawberries and cacao nibs (I also added protein powder)

No doubt about it, one of the best acai bowl’s I have ever consumed. Smooth and velvety, I can’t quite articulate the euphoric sensation I was experiencing, but I’ll try. The creaminess of the peanut butter teamed harmoniously with the frozen acai, resulting in a breakfast that wasn’t overly sweet, but truly heavenly - and antioxidant packed! Take that free radicals!!

The staff were super friendly and had considerable knowledge of the menu. Always a plus early on a Saturday morning.

Any of my Melbourne readers living around the Richmond area, I urge you - VISIT Nutrition Bar!! I would love to hear other opinions :)

I love how cafe’s are embracing clean-eating option’s into the menu (or in this case, designing a cafe around it). It’s little treasure’s like this, that truly personify The Smiling Foodie :)
