Star of Siam - 2013

Thursday night dining with my cousin, our love for Thai food brought us to Star Of Siam.

We arrive to a packed restaurant. After a brief wait, I was approached and shown to our table in the middle of the room – somewhat disappointing as I was offered a booth table when I made the booking. A rare slip after countless visits of flawless competence.

Perusing the menu, we opted for three entrees and a main to share.

We start with the Sea Stars – heavenly star shaped dumplings of supreme perfection! Velvety smooth and immensely flavorsome, the minced prawn, chicken and squid combined with the red curry sauce is wonderfully appealing and extremely moreish. Haven’t tried them? You MUST!

Moving on, we have the soft shell crab. Mouthwatering pieces of crab with salt, pepper, and spices covered with a sweet chili sauce. The crunchiness of the crab combined with the sauce was a textbook combination – executed flawlessly.

Ending the entrees, we had the Salt and Pepper Bean Curd. A lightly crisp exterior with a silky interior – the tofu was soft and tender but ultimately, it was bland compared to its superstar sibling entrees.

Lastly, we have the pièce de résistance – Pad Thai. Certainly one of the best Pad Thai’s in Adelaide – sweet, juicy and full of flavor. The prawns were tender and plentiful, the noodles were juicy – a perfect Pad Thai through and through.

The staff are wonderfully gracious - touches like serving our dishes with trademark professionalism - greatly appreciated!

Despite a few hiccups on this occasion, Star of Siam is without a doubt one of the best Thai restaurants in Adelaide – an absolute representation of enjoyable Gouger Street dining, which continues to shine with every visit – marvellous flavours combined gracious staff, Star of Siam certainly knows the recipe for success.

Until next time, happy noms :)
