Montreux, Switzerland

Welcome to Switzerland! Stunning mountains, world class scenery, and of course chocoholic heaven. While Switzerland might be one of the more expensive countries in Europe, you certainly pay for the quality. If its Swiss made, you know the quality is high. The Swiss pride themselves on this fact. And rightly so, I can honestly say the chocolate is the best I’ve ever had.

Montreux is a beautiful little city in southwest Switzerland, next to a giant lake somewhat resembling the ocean. With the magnificent mountains surrounding the city, it truly is a breathtaking sight.

Nick and I were fortunate enough to be staying at the hotel with Nick’s father; Geoff and his good mate Scott (who resides in Switzerland).

Our first night Geoff took us all out for dinner at a restaurant that two young travelers could never afford (especially in Switzerland where prices are higher than average). Overlooking the lake, watching the sunset, it truly was special. The food was incredibly tasty. Everything from the seafood main to the chocolate grapefruit dessert was a culinary delight. And the red wine was definitely flowing! While the service was average for an affluent restaurant, the food and atmosphere made up for it.

On the second day, the four of us decided to go for a drive into the mountainous areas of Switzerland surrounding Montreux. Never, and I mean never have I seen such gorgeous scenery. Driving around in a brand new Mercedes E-class, it was definitely a comfortable drive and a fantastic way to see the region.

The next day we departed Montreux and left for Basel, photos to come soon!

Until then, Auf wiedersehen friends!
