Brussels/Bruges, Belgium 2012

Welcome to the city of Brussels, Belgium. One of my favorite European cities thus far, Brussels possesses a certain charm and sophistication that makes exploring an absolute pleasure. Walking through the city makes one feel as if walking through a different era. Beautiful one moment, delicious the next, Brussels is an fascinating city.

The food was definitely a highlight, more specifically…..Belgium waffles. There are two types of waffles to choose from; the traditional Belgium waffle (softer, less sugar…more doughy) or the Liege waffle (sweeter, crunchier). My favorite was definitely the Belgium with dark chocolate & banana….simply orgasmic. With a massive range of toppings (see the pictures), it truly is a sweet tooth’s dream.

Additionally, the Belgium’s certainly know the recipe for premium chocolate. I felt like Homer (The Simpsons) when he has that dream about living in a world of chocolate in an earlier season of the TV series. Pure chocoholic bliss. Luckily there was a homemade chocolate shop just around the corner from our hotel where they make all their chocolates on site….the owner was my new best friend by the end of our stay!

Nick and I were also fortunate enough to do a day trip to the gorgeous town of Bruges. A pretty little town with plenty of historical buildings and natural beauty. We even visited a chocolate museum which included a chocolate making demonstration, very fascinating indeed!

Brussels will always be a special city for me, one which I hope to visit again. But the journey must continue…..next stop, the Netherlands!
