Bracegirdles - 2013
CHOCOLATE - The Smiling Foodie’s one true weakness. A characteristic I inherit from my dear Mother, and something I will always go weak at the knees for - well, most of the time anyway……..
Post lunch date in the central markets with fellow food bloggers B from I only eat desserts and Louis Fameli, we agreed to give Bracegirdles in Glenelg a visit.
Arriving to a relatively quiet cafe our eyes were heavily fixated on the wall menu. Confusingly, the staff seemed somewhat impatient as I was having trouble deciding what to order - I found it rather irritating, as the cafe wasn’t busy and we were the only ones ordering.
We continued upstairs to a charming second level - natural sunlight coating a minimalistic decor, it exuded serenity.
My dark hot chocolate was sublime - made the CORRECT way with real melted chocolate and milk (none of this powder crap) - every sip was pure elation……smooth and velvety.
The fruit fondue emerged looking truly mouthwatering - bananas, strawberries and orange pieces with a pot of dark chocolate dipping sauce - delish! Sadly, the sauce was lacklustre - it started off well, but several minutes past and the flavour started to resemble a burnt pool of unpleasantness.
B ordered the ice-cream bomb which didn’t receive rave reviews. Disappointing, as it looked rather intoxicating.
We also ordered three small chocolate’s - classic dark, strawberries & cream and dark with chilli. All three were lovely, the latter being the standout with a invigorating (yet subtle) burst of spiciness that complimented the dark chocolate harmoniously.
Sadly, despite the supreme hot chocolate, my dessert experience at Bracegirdles still conjured a feeling of discontent. Adelaide’s dessert scene is as fierce as Queen Bey, although, unlike her hit single, this visit didn’t provide ‘sweet dreams’.
Until Next time, happy eats :)
