Basel/Zurich, Switzerland 2012
En route from Montreux, Nick and I arrived in the lovely city of Basel, Switzerland. Basel had a very lovely feel to it and the fact it’s Rodger Federer’s home town made it made it so much more special.
We arrived around 7pm and were greeted by Scott (who stayed with us in Montreux) and his house was only a short walk. Perfect. We ended the day sitting on Scott’s balcony enjoying a bottle of red and a BBQ dinner, very lovely indeed.
The next day, Scott recommended a day trip to Strasbourg, France (as Basel is very close to the boarder). Since we didn’t really have any plans we both agreed it was a great idea.
After a short train ride, we were in Strasbourg! Greeted by a beaming sun, it was a perfect summer day. Gorgeous old architecture and charming little pastry shops on every corner, impressions were good. We sat down for lunch at this busy little cafe on one of the main street offering everything from gourmet baguettes to fresh fruit smoothies. Sitting outside under the shade was absolute bliss!
After lunch Nick and I walked around the city, taking in the beautiful sights and just enjoying what was essentially a perfect day!
Ending the day back in Switzerland by enjoying a traditional Swiss dinner at a local pub really was a great way to end a superb day.
As I’m sure it comes as no surprise, Switzerland has AMAZING chocolate. So smooth and creamy, with a vast array of flavors , it’s a chocoholics paradise! Anyone who knows me how much of a sweet tooth I have, and Switzerland definitely did not disappoint!
Our final days in Switzerland were spent in the lovely city of Zurich. While busier and more touristy than Basel, the city had a lovely traditional Swiss feel. The streets were easy to navigate, and nearly everything was in walking distance.
Just looking at the photos, you’ll see one of a bowl of some berry muesli. Quite possibly the most delicious muesli I’ve ever had. Sweet and oh so flavorsome, sitting there in Sprungli Cafe was absolute morning bliss!
Switzerland is without a doubt one of my favorite European countries. Mouthwatering food, gorgeous scenery and friendly people, Switzerland…..until we meet again!
